Web development in general term is process of developing a web site for the World Wide Web or an internet that includes web design, web content development, client-side/server-side scripting, and web server configuration. But due to extensive work and outstanding growth in website design, it has been considered as a separate component.

For becoming a successful web developer should be aware of technologies used on the web. Mostly HTML and JavaScript is used to create the GUI for web applications.

Server side technologies such as PHP, Java, JSP, Servlets, ASP, ASP.NET, CGI-PERL etc are used to run the dynamic web applications.

Databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle is used to store and retrieve the data for the web applications.

Website (Definition):

A website in general term is a set of related web pages containing text, images, audio and videos and other digital contents hosted on at least one server, from where contents can be accessed via a network (internet or local area network). A website is addressed with a common domain name or IP address in an Internet Protocol-based network.

A website comprises from one or more web pages – A document on the World Wide Web, consisting of an HTML file and any related files for scripts and graphics, and often hyperlinked to other documents on the Web. A web page may incorporate elements from other websites with suitable markup anchors – that are hyperlinked to one another.
